Gemma Louise Ward (born November 3, 1987 in Perth , Western Australia ) is an Australian model and actress .

Life

Gemma Ward is the second daughter of Claire and Gary Ward. Her older sister Sophie also works as a model. The twins Oscar and Henry are her two younger brothers. Ward was discovered in 2002 at the age of 15 when she was in the audience of the Australian television show "Search for a Supermodel" after friends had persuaded her to go along. She is a former student of Shenton College in Perth. She is 1.78 meters tall and her natural hair color is blonde.

Fashion

Ward was the youngest model selected for a Vogue photo shoot of It Girls of the Modeling World. She therefore joined the league of supermodels such as Gisele Bündchen , Karen Elson and Karolina Kurkova .

Ward has already participated in advertising campaigns from Prada to Yves Saint Laurent ; she worked as a runway model for designers such as Versace and Gucci . She was regularly given the honor of "First Face" (first model on the catwalk). She is also regularly on covers of magazines like Vogue and W to see. Ward is the main model (spokes model) for Calvin Klein's perfume "Obsession Night for Men". In spring 2006 she won the Fashion TV First Face Model Awards Spring 2006 .

She is under contract with Vivien's Model Management Australia for Australia and with IMG in New York for the rest of the world.

Movie

Ward starred in John Mayer's music video Daughters . In 2001 she played the role of "Heidi" in the movie Pink Pajamas . Ward plays alongside Rhys Wakefield and Toni Collette in the film The Black Balloon , which had its world premiere at the Berlinale 2008 and won the Glass Bear in the Generation 14plus section. In the horror film The Strangers (2008), she played alongside Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman , but her face is covered by a mask throughout the film, with the exception of a short scene. In 2011 she appeared as a mermaid in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides . In the remake of The Great Gatsby (2013), Gemma Ward makes a second appearance.

Private life

In 2008, the Australian was said to have a relationship with Heath Ledger after some newspapers published clear photos of the matter.

In 2011, Ward confirmed this in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph . The two spent Christmas together in their hometown of Perth before returning to New York together , where Ledger died on January 22, 2008. Ward and boyfriend David Letts became parents to a daughter in December 2013. The second child was born in early 2017.

Gemma Ward lives in Byron Bay , Australia.
