Rhys Wakefield (born November 20, 1988 in Cairns , Queensland ) is an Australian actor .

Life

Wakefield was born in Cairns , Queensland . He attended courses at the McDonald College of Performing Arts , where he received a 2003 scholarship. During this time he played in many plays such as Shakespeare and was involved in projects with Opera Australia and the Australian Ballet . In addition to his courses at McDonald College , he attended drama school. He graduated from McDonald College in 2006 .

His acting career began in 2000 with a small role in the movie Bootmen . The following year he appeared in the eleventh and twelfth episodes of the television series Koalas and Other Relatives as Brad . He made his breakthrough in Australia in the soap opera Home and Away . There he was seen as Lucas Holden from August 2005 to February 2008 . For this role he was nominated for a Logie Award in 2006. In 2008 he got his first leading role in the feature film The Black Balloon , in which he played the role of Thomas Mollison . The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2008 and received the Transparent Bear in the Generation 14plus category .

After leaving Home and Away , he starred in the 2011 action film Sanctum, produced by James Cameron , as Josh McGuire . He has also received roles in Broken Hill (2009), Nobody Walks (2012), The Purge (2013), Party Invaders (2013) and Endless Love (2014). At the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival 2013, the science fiction film The Philosophers - Who Survived? with Wakefield in the role of James Premiere.
