The Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF, French Festival international du film fantastique de Neuchâtel ) is an international film festival that is held annually in Neuchâtel , Switzerland . It specializes in fantastic films, with filmmaking in Asia playing a special role. Fantastic films in the sense of the festival are films that “transcend normal reality”. In addition to fantasy, this also includes science fiction , horror , mystery , thriller and the like. There are also stop-motion animations and digital images .
In 2000, a group of students led by Anaïs Emery, who will be the artistic director until 2020, organized the first NIFFF. After a one-year break, a new edition followed annually in July from 2002 and the event grew continuously. Since 2001 the NIFFF has been integrated into the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation . Jean Studer has been President of the Organizing Committee since 2013 . In 2018, a new visitor record was achieved with 44,000 spectators. The NIFFF is an event supported by the Federal Office of Culture , the main media partner is Radio Télévision Suisse .
