action

Rose Dooley, who works as a driving instructor in rural Ireland, possesses supernatural skills. When Christian Winter, a rock star who has only had one hit so far, makes a pact with the devil to regain fame and puts a spell on a local teenager, Martin Martin, their terrified father, asks his daughter to go to Rose save. Not only his daughter Sarah seems to be possessed by a demon, he is also haunted by the contentious spirit of his deceased wife.

To help him, Rose must overcome her fear of the supernatural gift she inherited from her father Vincent Dooley, who died 20 years earlier. He was a passionate ghost researcher and recorded his findings about paranormal spooks on video. Rose and Martin watch Vincent's instructional videos and take on the fight against the dark forces. For their fight against the demons they need a lot of ectoplasm , which Martin has to vomit every time the ghost of a dead man has slipped into him and escaped again.

Reviews

Comedienne Maeve Higgins plays the driving instructor and demon hunter Rose Dooley in the film

So far, the film has received the approval of 98 percent of all Rotten Tomatoes critics and achieved an average rating of 7.5 out of a possible 10 points.

Variety's Dennis Harvey writes that Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman made Extra Ordinary, an accessible comedy that contains a range of digital effects appropriate for a fantasy film that would not indulge in the usual CGI overkill. Harvey particularly highlights the work of cinematographer James Mather and the production design by Joe Fallover . The comedienne Maeve Higgins gives the heroine Rose Dooley an unmistakable, open-hearted personality.

Lutz Granert from Filmstarts explains that Ahern and Loughman made no secret of their great role models in Extra Ordinary : “In addition to the plot parallels to Ghostbusters , The Exorcist in particular served as a source of inspiration. William Friedkin's horror classic is even quoted as scenes when Rose stands under a lantern at night before she goes up to Sarah's lighted room, where the teenager is just floating over the bed. “Quirky humor, weird situation comedy, including the slowest car chase of film history, and silly, clumsy gibberish merged smoothly in Extra Ordinary , so Granert and sums up, even if the film tries to jump on the retro wave and a few gags go wrong, the horror comedy offers with its original setting in the Irish province still more than enough and, above all, nice and quirky laughs.
