Luigi Cozzi (born September 7, 1947 in Busto Arsizio ) is an Italian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Cozzi worked as a journalist (for “Ciao 2001”) and translator of fantastic-utopian novels for the publisher “Urania” and began as a dubbing and editing assistant for the film . As early as 1969 he made the science fiction film Il tunnel sotto il mondo with small funds and was then assistant director to Dario Argento , for whom he also directed the television film Il vicono di casa in 1973 . In 1975 he started a series of films, which can often be assigned to fantastic genres, but also mostly suffered from budget limitations . Cozzi used the pseudonym Lewis Coates for this .

Throughout his life he remained connected to Argento's work; Cozzi runs a film shop in Rome, which he named after a film by Argento, "Profondo Rosso". He is considered one of the best experts on the scene and takes care of the documentation of this area of ​​Italian culture. In October 2011, he received the Nosferatu Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Sitges Film Festival .
