More than 20 specialists work as attending doctors in the clinic . The clinic is run by an association supported by the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Saint Marc Province of St. Trudpert . The gynecological emergency service for Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar district is located in the Sankt Elisabeth clinic. It is organized by the Gynecological Doctors Network Heidelberg / Rhein-Neckar eV, an association of around 80 gynecologists in the region.
history
In 1925, the then Heidelberg city pastor August Dietrich founded the clinic as a private, non-profit gynecological clinic with an obstetric department. His aim was to give women with little money a safe delivery and competent medical treatment. The care of the patients was taken over from October 1925 by the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, whose mother house is the St. Trudpert Monastery in Münstertal in the Black Forest. In 1926 the clinic moved to the Villa Haus Felseck am Schlossberg, where the women had 40 beds for obstetrics and gynecology. Around 40,000 children had been delivered in the Sankt Elisabeth Clinic by 1976.
At the beginning of the 1970s, the clinic's accommodation options reached their limits, so that the clinic management began looking for land for a new building in 1971. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 6, 1973 in Heidelberg- Handschuhsheim . The construction work lasted three years until the new clinic building in Max-Reger-Strasse was inaugurated on September 10, 1976.
