occupation

Hercules is a 1983 mythological film produced in Italy . Director Luigi Cozzi received scathing reviews for his inexpensive film.

action

Hercules' foster parents are murdered, and he himself sets off for Troy . There he falls in love with Cassiopeia . Since the gods father Zeus promised them to King Minos , he is angry and prevents the intimate togetherness by throwing Hercules out to sea. He then has to deal with the sorceress Circe , a hydra and the underworld before he finally gets to Crete. There he puts Minos, who, as he has found out, is also responsible for the death of his parents, to a duel and after his successful outcome he can save Cassiopeia from the clutches of the Phoenix with the help of a magic sword . After all, all of Crete is on fire .

criticism

"If you didn't see it on the screen, you wouldn't think this idiotic myth-stew with its pink bubbling jelly (aka phoenix) and the various steel monsters from the Märklin construction kit would be possible."

- Ronald M. Hahn / Volker Jansen, Norbert Stresau : Lexikon des Fantasy-Films, Munich 1986, p. 212.

"One can perhaps gain an insight into the fidelity of this film from the fact that it presents Daedalus as a fairytale goblin and Atlantis as another planet ..."

“In the cheaply made offspring of earlier sandal films, there is hardly anyone missing who has rank and name in Greek mythology. The opposite is true for the actors. Zeus turns away with horror. "

“'Hulk' Lou Ferrigno strides in sandals to the heroic rescue of a beautiful king's daughter. [...] Lousy cardboard backdrops. "

"A simple-minded revival of the hero figure of Greek mythology in the wake of ' Conan, the barbarian ', enriched by some dull effects of the fantasy wave."

On April 20, 2018, the film was shown as part of the Tele 5 series The Worst Films of All Time .
