Gianni Garko (born July 15, 1935 in Zara , Dalmatia ; actually Giovanni Garcovich , sometimes John Garko ) is an Italian actor . He often played in spaghetti westerns .

Life

Garko was born in Dalmatia and went to Trieste as a young man , where he gained his first experience as an actor in the theater group 'Universe City'. During his visit to the Accademia d'Arte Drammatica in Rome, he made contacts in the film industry, which from 1958 onwards helped him to a large number of roles, from 1966 to 1973 mainly in spaghetti westerns . Garko made his breakthrough with the role of 'Sartana' in the film of the same name, which he later repeated several times with different attributes and thus added a new variant to the usual avenging image of most spaghetti western heroes: the self-ironic one , infallible sniper. To escape this typification, Garko also made a few films under the pseudonym Gary Hudson . Since the end of the success of this film genre, Garko has also been seen in many other genres, more and more in television films and most recently (2002) in a TV soap.

In 1958 Garko played alongside Lilla Brignone under Luchino Visconti in Veglia la mia casa, angelo . His television career also began that year, which he intensified especially towards the end of the 1970s and into the 1980s.

From 1973 to 1986 Garko was married to the film actress Susanna Martinková.
