action

1865, Texas . The civil war is officially over, but clashes keep flaring up between the warring parties and their representatives. Shortly after the Southerners Brian Clarke is unharmed returned home, he and his young wife are from a Yankee - vigilantes attacked and set fire to his house - his wife died in the flames. Brian is saved by Daniel passing by, but has lost his memory. Friendship develops between the two men and Brian's brother Robert, but this is put to a severe test by Brian's change into a cynical, uncontrolled avenger (he only remembers a sheriff's star that one of the perpetrators wore) and soon turns into enmity. When Brian kills his little brother in a fit of madness after numerous sadisms , Daniel, who has meanwhile been appointed sheriff, steps in. The fight between the two takes place in a train tunnel, in which Brian now holds Sheriff Daniel responsible. Daniel kills Brian.

criticism

Christian Keßler complains that the film contains numerous good ideas and interesting approaches, but “the staging is simply too tension-free and unattractive” because director Siciliano is unable to “give the film its own rhythm or tempo”. The Italian criticism of Segnalazioni Cinematografiche also complain that the western seems endless due to the slow pace and miserable exterior shots, whereby the Freudian scene complexes and borrowings from horror films make the story seem unlikely. The lexicon of international film only writes of an “average European western with a lot of brutal scenes”.

Remarks
