Oskar Weihs

Oskar Weihs (born April 19, 1911 in Vienna , † February 7, 1978 in Vienna) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Oskar Weihs attended a humanistic grammar school in Vienna- Hietzing . In 1932 he joined the NSDAP ( membership number 1,089,867). He studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences , became a qualified engineer in 1933 and received his doctorate in 1935 with a dissertation on the influence of some disinfectants on yeasts that are harmful to the dairy industry . He then worked at the “Wiener Molkerei”. From 1938 he was department head in the milk and fat industry association "Südmark".

After the end of the Second World War, Weihs joined the SPÖ and became its first agricultural spokesman. He became head of the economic policy and statistical department of the Styrian Chamber for workers and employees . From 1949 he was censor of the National Bank .

From 1959 to 1975 he was a member of the National Council . From 1970 to 1976 he held the office of Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forestry .
