Karl Lausecker

Karl Lausecker (born November 10, 1928 in Vienna ; † September 21, 2015 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Karl Lausecker attended a secondary school. After graduating from high school in 1947, he entered the federal service. From 1948 to 1973 he held various positions in the public service union .

From 1973 to 1983 he was a member of the National Council .

From 1973 to 1977 he was State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery, from 1977 to 1984 Federal Minister for Transport and briefly in 1979 for Buildings and Technology .

From 1985 to 1995, Karl Lausecker was chairman of the ERP credit commission ("European Recovery Program").

As Minister of Transport, he is associated with important decisions such as the expansion of the motorway network, the relocation of freight traffic from rail to road and the expansion of the telephone network. He is described as a music-loving politician with extensive expertise and detailed knowledge. The Vienna Philharmonic awarded him the Schalk Medal as an honor , and the former director of the Vienna Philharmonic, Clemens Hellsberg , dedicated an obituary to him.
