Franz Schalk Medal in gold
The Franz Schalk Medal in gold is an honor that has been awarded by the Vienna Philharmonic since 1963 . It is named after the conductor, first director of the Vienna State Opera and co-founder of the Salzburg Festival, Franz Schalk , who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 1963.
Award criteria and motto
The medal is awarded to personalities "who have rendered services to our orchestra in a special way that goes beyond" normal "professional or business relationships". The motto of the honor is "Take care of my Philharmonic Orchestra" - the supposed last sentence by Franz Schalk.
