Christian Konrad (2013)

Christian Konrad (born July 24, 1943 in Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel ) is a former Austrian bank manager .

Life

Christian Konrad attended high school in Laa an der Thaya . After studying law at the University of Vienna (Dr. iur 1969), he joined Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien in the same year .

He was chairman of the supervisory board of Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien AG. Until mid-2012 he was a. a. Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Raiffeisen-Zentralbank Österreich AG and UNIQA , one of the largest Austrian insurance groups.

From 1994 to 2012 he was advocate general of the Austrian Raiffeisen Association and thus had a key position at the Raiffeisen cooperatives in Austria . RZB General Director Walter Rothensteiner has been the new General Advocate since July 2012 , after Konrad had already relinquished the chairman of Raiffeisen-Holding Niederösterreich-Wien to Erwin Hameseder in May 2012 .

Konrad's top positions in the Raiffeisen sector resulted in a considerable number of supervisory board functions and, according to reports, also a not insignificant influence on politics and the media. He was said to have good contacts with other powerful business leaders in Austria and influential politicians in the SPÖ and ÖVP .

He was known to a wider public as the regional hunter master of Lower Austria for 21 years before he was succeeded in this position by Josef Pröll in 2012, and the organizer of celebrity pilgrimages to Mariazell . For 13 years Christian Konrad was chairman of the campaign “Mariazell needs our help”, which made the general refurbishment and renovation of the Styrian pilgrimage basilica possible. From 2006 to 2011 he was chairman of the “Our St. Stephen's Cathedral” association, which has set itself the task of restoring St. Stephen's Cathedral . He resigned from the latter position on May 20, 2011 after differences with Cardinal Christoph Schönborn . This involved a projected partial construction of Stephansplatz and the relocation of the Dombauhütte to a basement.

Konrad was President of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society until 2012 .

In August 2015 he was appointed refugee coordinator by the Austrian federal government until September 30, 2016 .

• 1999: Great Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria
• 2008: Large Silver Decoration with the Star for Services to the Republic of Austria
• 2008: Silver Commander's Cross with the Star of Honor for Services to the State of Lower Austria
• 2008: Great Golden Decoration for Services to the State of Vienna
• 2008: Franz Schalk Medal in gold
• 2016: Order of Merit of the WCC to support the Refugees
• 2018: Julius Raab Medal
