Walter Rothensteiner (born March 7, 1953 in St. Pölten ) is Advocate General of the Austrian Raiffeisen Association and was General Director of Raiffeisen Zentralbank Österreich AG until 2017 .

Life

After Rothensteiner had completed his degree in commercial science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , he began his professional career in 1975 at Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien , where he was most recently a member of the management team. In 1991 he moved to the management board of Agrana Beteiligungs AG. At the same time as his functions at Raiffeisenlandesbank and AGRANA, Rothensteiner held a board mandate at Leipnik-Lundenburger Invest Beteiligungs AG from 1987 to 1995.

In January 1995, Rothensteiner joined RZB ; first as deputy chairman of the board, he was appointed chairman of the board and general director of RZB after just five months. In addition, Rothensteiner has been chairman of the credit and insurance division of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce since June 1997 and represents the Republic of Singapore as honorary consul in Austria. He is also a member of the General Council of the Austrian National Bank and President of the Ferienhort am Wolfgangsee association . Since 1996 he has been an honorary member of the Catholic student association Ö.kaV Rhaeto-Danubia Vienna in the ÖCV .

RZB grew considerably under his leadership: This is primarily due to the rapid growth of Raiffeisen Bank International, which belongs to the RZB Group, and its expansion in Central and Eastern Europe.

In June 2011 Walter Rothensteiner was a guest at the 59th Bilderberg Conference in St. Moritz .

Since July 1, 2012, Rothensteiner has succeeded Christian Konrad as advocate general of the Austrian Raiffeisen Association. The title of Advocate General was created under Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen . Rothensteiner is thus the highest representative and spokesman for the Austrian Raiffeisen cooperatives and chairman of the Austrian Raiffeisen Association .

After 25 years as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Casinos Austria Aktiengesellschaft, Rothensteiner resigned in July 2020 in the wake of the Casinos affair .
