The Badge of Honor for Services to the State of Vienna is the most significant honor currently issued by the State of Vienna . The various levels of the order are awarded by the governor or in his name.

This honorary badge should not be confused with the other awards of the City of Vienna , which have included the Medal of Honor of the Federal Capital Vienna , the Honorary Citizens of the City of Vienna , the Ring of Honor of the City of Vienna and the Golden City Hall Man since around 1949 .

The breast star is a 85 mm high and 85 mm wide, eight-pointed gold-plated star with brooching. It is elevated by a sixteen-pointed, red-rimmed star, which shows a golden eagle with the coat of arms of Vienna as a breast shield in the white central field. The golden merit mark consists of a 43 mm high and 43 mm wide, four-part cross with eight points, the fields of which are enamelled in red and white. Between the legs of the cross there are eleven gilded rays, which are elevated in the middle of the cross by the state coat of arms. The cross is attached to a red and white moiré ribbon that is 45 mm wide and folded into a triangle. The gold medal of merit is awarded for great merits.

Silver Merit of the State of Vienna

The silver mark of merit corresponds to the gold mark of merit, but has silver-plated rays instead of the gold-plated rays. The Silver Mark of Merit is awarded for merit.

Privileges and withdrawal of honor

Every holder of a badge of honor is entitled to wear it in the prescribed manner and to designate himself as a borrower. There are no other privileges associated with the award. The honorary badge becomes the property of the borrower. There is no obligation to return it after his death.

The neck decorations are worn with the ribbon around the neck, while the medals and breast stars are worn on the left side of the chest. Women wear the “Great Golden” and “Great Silver Badges of Honor” as well as the badges of honor in gold and silver on a mesh-like sewn ribbon that has the width corresponding to the individual steps. All levels of the badge of honor can also be worn in the form of a small copy.

If the award winner is convicted of a crime, the state government shall revoke the right to wear the award. In the event of repeated convictions or violations, the honor will be withdrawn if the criminal offenses have impaired the reputation of the State of Vienna. Anyone who changes the badge of honor without authorization will be punished at least for this administrative violation with an administrative penalty of up to 700 euros.
