Franz Mailer
Franz Mailer (born September 21, 1920 in Vienna ; † January 15, 2010 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs ) was an Austrian music writer and critic.
Life
After studying art history and musicology at the University of Vienna , Mailer initially worked for the Austrian Cultural Association, and then worked as a journalist and radio operator until 1963 .
Mailer then switched to Bayerischer Rundfunk , WDR in Cologne and Süddeutscher Rundfunk . He then set up an archive on the cultural history of Vienna in the 19th century in Waidhofen an der Ybbs .
From 1992 Mailer was President of the Johann Strauss Society in Vienna. He founded the complete scientific editions of Johann and Josef Strauss . He was also a consultant for the recording of compositions by the Strauss dynasty .
Finally, Mailer published documentary biographies and catalog raisonnés of the Strauss brothers and participated in the selection of the program for the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's concerts .
