Hans Seidel (economist)

Hans Seidel (born October 14, 1922 in Vienna ; † September 1, 2015 there ) was an Austrian economist and economic historian .

Life

Hans Seidel studied at the University of World Trade in Vienna. From 1946 to 1980 Hans Seidel worked at the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO). First he was scientific advisor from 1946, scientific editor and coordinator in 1947, deputy head from 1962 and head of the institute from 1973 to 1980. Seidel was then associated with WIFO as a consultant and received honorary membership in 2006. In 1957 Seidel completed a study visit to the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

From 1981 to 1983 Seidel was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance , 1984 to 1990 Head of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), from 1985 to 1989 he was Austrian representative in the Economic Policy Committee of the OECD , from 1986 to 1989 Chairman of the Economic Committee of EFTA . Hans Seidel was also an honorary professor at the University of Vienna .

In his work on empirical economic research, he dealt with the topics of business cycle research, regional research, industrial policy, financial policy and economic history. His articles have appeared in publications by WIFO and IHS as well as in specialist journals and specialist books.

Hans Seidel was married and had a daughter.
