Kurt Steyrer
Kurt Steyrer (born June 3, 1920 in Linz , † July 16, 2007 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).
Life
Kurt Steyrer studied medicine in Vienna and at the University of Prague ( doctorate in 1945). In 1951 he opened a specialist practice as a dermatologist . From 1952 to 1981 he was a company doctor at Simmering-Graz-Pauker AG.
In 1946 Steyrer joined the SPÖ and the Socialist Medical Association , of which he was chairman from 1961 to 1968.
From 1975 to 1983 Kurt Steyrer was a member of the National Council , from 1981 to 1985 Federal Minister for Health and Environmental Protection under Bruno Kreisky and Fred Sinowatz . During his time as Minister of the Environment, the political paradigm shift in the big parties towards “green ideas” occurred.
In the federal presidential elections in 1986 , he ran at the suggestion of Fred Sinowatz . He lost to Kurt Waldheim in the second ballot .
In 1987/88 he was a member and spokesman for pensioners of the Vienna City Council .
From 1987 to 1989 he was president of the ARBÖ .
Steyrer is buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 2, row 31, grave number 7).
