Maria Patek (born July 13, 1958 in Michaelerberg ) is a top Austrian civil servant. From June 3, 2019 to January 7, 2020 she was Federal Minister for Sustainability and Tourism .

Life

Patek was born as a child of the Mösenbacher farming family, who lived in Moosheim in Michaelerberg-Pruggern ( Gröbming branch ). In 1982 she completed her studies in forestry and wood management at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna ( Dipl.-Ing. ). In 2008, she completed an MBA in Public Management at the University of Salzburg .

She began her professional career in 1983 in what was then the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry , in 1994 she took over the regional construction management of Wiener Neustadt for torrent and avalanche control , from 2002 she headed the torrent and avalanche control department nationwide. At the end of 2016, she appointed Andrä Rupprechter as head of the water management section. In mid-2018, Minister Elisabeth Köstinger entrusted her with the management of the Forestry and Sustainability Section.

On June 3, 2019, she was appointed Federal Minister for Sustainability and Tourism in the Bierlein Federal Government . After swearing in by the Federal Government Kurz II in January 2020, she returned to the Forestry and Sustainability Section.

Maria Patek lives in Wiener Neustadt , where she has been Chair of the Environmental Advisory Council since July 2017.
