Josef Riegler

Josef Riegler (born November 1, 1938 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian politician of the ÖVP and currently active in ecological social policy. From 1987 to 1991 he was Minister and Vice Chancellor in two Austrian federal governments and from 1989 to 1991 Federal Party Chairman of the Austrian People's Party.

From January 1987 to April 1989 he was Federal Minister for Agriculture and Forestry . With the government reshuffle on April 24, 1989 (Federal Government Vranitzky III ), he became Vice Chancellor (he held the office until July 2, 1991) and Federal Minister for Federalism and Administrative Reform (until October 22, 1991).

Around 1986 he coined the term eco-social market economy , which includes environmental protection as a political category in the social market economy . He continues to pursue this concept in the Global Marshall Plan Initiative , of which he is the Austrian coordinator. Josef Riegler is Honorary President of the Eco-Social Forum and on the Advisory Board for the Friends of Ecological Tax Reform . In addition, since 1986 Riegler has been an honorary member of the Catholic Austrian Student Union Liechtenstein Judenburg in the Middle Schools Cartel Association .
