Karl Hartleb

Karl Hartleb (born October 23, 1886 in Sankt Georgen near Neumarkt (Styria), † August 29, 1965 in Friesach ) was an Austrian politician ( Landbund , VdU ).

Life

Karl Hartleb worked as a farmer , sawmill and miller. From 1919 to 1927 he was a member of the Styrian state parliament . Hartleb was a member of the party leadership of the Landbund . From 1927 to 1930 he was a member of the National Council , from 1927 to 1929 also Vice Chancellor .

After the "Anschluss" in 1938 Hartleb became a party member of the NSDAP , as well as cell leader and local farmer leader of St. Georgen near St. Marein near Neumarkt in Styria. From 1938 to 1945 he was the local group leader of the NSDAP. Those were the highest functions he held in the Nazi era. After the war he was arrested in 1945 and spent 15 months in the internment camp Stalag XVIII A in Wolfsberg , which was then called Camp 373 during the British occupation .

From 1949 to 1956 Hartleb was again a member of the National Council and club chairman of the Association of Independents . From 1953 to 1956 he was the third president of the National Council .

The SPÖ politician Bruno Pittermann described Hartleb as the " Old Shatterhand of the VdU."
