Herbert Haupt

Herbert Haupt (born September 28, 1947 in Seeboden , Carinthia ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ , previously FPK and BZÖ ). He was Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection in the federal governments Schüssel I and Schüssel II . Currently he is the main city councilor and second deputy mayor of the municipality of Spittal an der Drau .

Life

Herbert Haupt completed his training as a master's degree in veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna . He then worked as a veterinarian with a private practice. Politically, he worked as district party chairman, local council, state party chairman, member of the National Council , third President of the National Council , federal party chairman and vice chancellor . Furthermore, he is an old man with the striking Academic Landsmannschaft Carinthia in Vienna .

From 2002 to 2004 he was federal party leader of the FPÖ. From October 24, 2000 to January 2005, he was Federal Minister (from October 24, 2000 to February 28, 2003 BM for Social Security and Generations , since February 28, 2003 BM for Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection ). On January 23, 2005, at the party meeting of the FPÖ, it was decided to replace him as Federal Minister, on January 24, 2005 Herbert Haupt announced his resignation as Minister of Social Affairs. His successor was the chairwoman of the FPÖ, State Secretary Ursula Haubner . Herbert Haupt joined the FPÖ government members and members of the National Council in April 2005 and joined Jörg Haider's BZÖ .

Between February and October 2003 Haupt was Austrian Vice Chancellor .

From 2006 Herbert Haupt was the first Austrian disability lawyer and supervised the implementation of the Disability Equality Act, which he himself initiated as Federal Minister. On December 16, 2009, he was replaced in this position by Erwin Buchinger .

Herbert Haupt was married to Renate Haupt (née Pirkner) until her death; she died of cancer on June 19, 2014. Haupt has no children and lives in Spittal an der Drau . On February 29, 2016, Haupt married his partner Ingrid Pibernig.

Trivia

Haupt was known for his nested endless sentences, often introduced with the phrase “I say it in all clarity”, which earned him the reputation of a weird cult figure .

He was also known for his long series of accidents and illnesses. By October 2011, he had survived 14 car accidents, a plane crash, and a diving accident, in which he was clinically dead twice. After a car accident in 1981, he was infected with hepatitis C through a blood transfusion, but is now considered cured. He also had to undergo tumor surgery on the windpipe.

On the 2011 national holiday he was a guest on the show Wir sind Kaiser .
