Heidrun Silhavy (born May 20, 1956 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From July 1 to December 2, 2008, she held the office of Federal Minister for Women and the Media in the Gusenbauer cabinet . She succeeded Doris Bures in this position .

Life

Heidrun Silhavy passed her Matura in 1974 and then worked from 1976 to 1981 in the economics department of the AK Styria . Since 1981 she was the Styrian ÖGB state women's secretary. In 1990 she became chairwoman of the social democratic trade unionists in the AK Styria and held this office until 1994. Since 1991 she has been an elected member of the Styrian state executive of the ÖGB .

Since 1994 Silhavy has been a member of the National Council . A year later she became deputy state party chairman of the SPÖ Styria and a member of the state party presidium of the SPÖ. In the same year she became a member of the federal party executive. From 1998 to 2002 she held the office of deputy regional women chairwoman of the SPÖ Styria and since 2000 has been deputy club chairwoman of the social democratic parliamentary group . Furthermore, Silhavy became SPÖ social spokeswoman in 2000.

From January 2007 to June 2008 Silhavy held the office of State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery , responsible for regional policy and administrative reform. On June 23, 2008, she was announced as Minister- designate to succeed her party colleague Doris Bures . The inauguration and handover was on July 1st. Gabriele Heinisch-Hosek took over her position on December 2nd, 2008 .

Silhavy is divorced, she has a son and two grandchildren.
