SPÖ parliamentary club

The SPÖ Parliamentary Club (officially the Social Democratic parliamentary group , until 1991 Club of Socialist Members and Federal Councilors ) is the club of the Social Democratic Party of Austria in the Austrian National Council .

While the club chairman Bruno Kreisky was Federal Chancellor, from 1971 Leopold Gratz , from 1973 Robert Weisz and from 1975 Heinz Fischer took on the official duties as the club chairman. From 2000 to 2007 Alfred Gusenbauer was club chairman , while Josef Cap was the club's executive chairman. After that, Cap became sole club chairman until Andreas Schieder took over the position in 2013. After the 2017 National Council election , Christian Kern was elected chairman of the club, after which Andreas Schieder continued to act as the club's executive chairman. Following Kern's withdrawal from politics, the SPÖ unanimously elected Pamela Rendi-Wagner as club chairwoman on October 8, 2018. With 88.2 percent of the votes, Rendi-Wagner was confirmed in this office on October 22, 2019.

Since 2016, the SPÖ Parliamentary Club, together with the Dr. Karl Renner Institute, has awarded the Kurt Rothschild Prize for Business Journalism , named after Kurt Rothschild . The main award winners in 2016 were Peter Bofinger , 2017 Marcel Fratzscher , 2018 Heinz D. Kurz and 2019 Kate Raworth .
