Nurten Yılmaz (born September 17, 1957 in Söke , Aydın Province / Turkey ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 2001 to 2013 she was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council and has been a member of the National Council since 2013 .

education and profession

Nurten Yılmaz's parents emigrated to Austria with their three children in 1966. Her mother worked as a factory worker at Philips , her father († 1980) worked as a tailor for various companies. Yılmaz graduated from the technical college for electrical engineering in Vienna- Favoriten , which she graduated in 1977. She then worked in the statistics department of the Vienna Regional Health Insurance Fund until 1990 and was employed in the SPÖ's Federal Women's Secretariat from September 1992 to October 1997. From 2005 to 2013 Yılmaz worked for Kinderfreunde Wien.

politics

From the age of 17, Yılmaz became involved in the Socialist Youth and subsequently in other various organizations of the SPÖ and has been a member of the party since 1981. She is co-founder of the “Women's Initiative Bicultural Marriage and Life Communities (FIBEL)”, member of the board of the association “Austrian-Turkish Friendship” and member of the board of trustees of the Vienna Integration Fund. Yılmaz was also involved in district politics in Ottakring , where she was district manager of the SPÖ from 1997 to 2005. In 1999 she was elected to the district council. As the district councilor responsible for issues relating to children and young people, she represented the SPÖ in the district council until 2001. In 2001 she moved to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council, where between 2007 and 2013 she was chair of the committee for “Integration, Women's Issues, Consumer Protection and Personnel”. Nurten Yılmaz has been the district party chairwoman of the SPÖ-Ottakring since 2003. Since 2005 she has been an elected member of the Vienna Women's Committee and since 2010 an elected member of the Federal Women's Board of the SPÖ. In the 2013 National Council election, Yılmaz was able to win a basic mandate for the SPÖ in constituency 9F (Vienna North-West), which she defended in the 2017 and 2019 National Council elections. She is the area spokesperson for integration in the SPÖ parliamentary club and a member of the parliamentary budget committees, permanent subcommittee of the budget committee, internal affairs, sport and research / innovation / digitization.

Private

Yılmaz is the mother of two daughters (* 1979 and 1990).
