Ruth Becher (born January 28, 1956 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

After elementary school, Ruth Becher attended a general high school and then began a teaching degree in German and history , which she received in 1984 with the title Mag. Phil. completed. From 1984 she worked as a teacher at a vocational secondary school and has been decommissioned since 1996 when the salary was discontinued.

Political career

Ruth Becher began her political career in Vienna and from 1987 was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council . In 1989 she was elected women's chairwoman of the SPÖ Vienna- Donaustadt and from 1997 to 2005 she was district party chairwoman of the SPÖ Donaustadt. In 2002, Becher moved from the Vienna Landtag to the National Council, to which she has been a member since December 20, 2002. In 2005 she also took over the post of district party chairman of the SPÖ Donaustadt. From 1994 to 2002 she was also chairwoman of the Vienna Tenants' Association.

In the 2006 National Council election , Ruth Becher was re-elected to the National Council through a direct mandate from the constituency of Vienna North. She is the chairman of the building committee and deputy chairman of the audit committee. Her focus is also on consumer protection and judicial policy .

In the legislative period up to 2013 she is a member of the following committees: subcommittee of the constitutional committee, committee for internal affairs, audit committee, building committee, justice committee, culture committee, environment committee.
