Rudolf Silvan (born September 22, 1967 in Mödling , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and trade unionist (state manager of the Lower Austria construction wood union). On October 23, 2019, Silvan was sworn in as a member of the National Council of Austria.

Politics and career

Rudolf Silvan grew up in Brunn am Gebirge , where he attended elementary school from 1973 to 1977, secondary school from 1977 to 1981 and the polytechnic from 1981 to 1982 . Silvan began an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, but had to break it off shortly afterwards due to a cement allergy. He learned the bakery trade and after his military service he worked as a shift worker at the blast furnace in the glass factory in Brunn am Gebirge.

Since 1990 Silvan has campaigned for the rights of workers in the union. He attended the trade union school from 1990 to 1992, passed the apprenticeship trainer examination in 1992 and in the same year attended the works council academy of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Lower Austria (AKNÖ). In 2003, Silvan passed the university entrance examination and studied law at the University of Linz for two semesters from 2003 to 2004 . From 2006 to 2008 he was a member of the Rehabilitation Committee of the General Accident Insurance Fund (AUVA). From 2008 to 2019, Silvan was chairman of AUVA Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. In 2009 Silvan became regional manager and member of the board of the Bau-Holz trade union . In 2011 he obtained a diploma as a mental coach . Rudolf Silvan has been chairman of the committee for health policy and worker protection in the AKNÖ since 2015.

Silvan was instrumental in founding the AUVA Trauma Center Vienna (a trauma center at the two locations UKH Lorenz Böhler and UKH Meidling). In 2019, Silvan moved to the newly founded board of directors of AUVA. In addition, the trade unionist was a board member of the Lower Austrian Regional Health Insurance Fund (NÖ GKK) from 2016-2019 .

On July 5, 2019, Silvan was chosen by the state party council of the SPÖ Lower Austria as the top candidate for the National Council election in September 2019. On October 23, 2019, Silvan was sworn in as a member of the National Council.
