The Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt ( AUVA for short ) is an institution of the Austrian social insurance system . It is part of the statutory accident insurance .

AUVA is the social accident insurance for around 4.5 million people. Of these, 3.1 million are employed (1.3 million blue-collar workers and 1.8 million salaried employees) and 1.4 million are in training from the compulsory kindergarten year to graduation. Numerous voluntary aid organizations and lifesavers are also included in the insurance.

AUVA is one of three social accident insurance carriers in Austria. The other two are the Social Insurance Institution for the Self-employed and the Insurance Institution for Public Employees, Railways and Mining .

Services

The AUVA ensures comprehensive prevention: through accident prevention and combating occupational diseases, occupational medicine and first aid precautions, accident treatment with all appropriate means, holistic rehabilitation and compensation (e.g. accident pensions). Two other important tasks according to the law are the safety-related and occupational medical care of small and medium-sized companies ( AUVAafe ) and the subsidy for continued remuneration in the event of an accident or illness for small and medium-sized companies (EFZ).

AUVA-safe

On January 1, 1995, the Employee Protection Act (ASchG) came into force. It provided for safety-related and occupational health care for almost all employees. From January 1, 1999, this preventive service became mandatory for companies with 1–50 employees. Due to this legal requirement, the AUVA received according to Article VI of the ASchG the statutory mandate to small and medium-sized enterprises with max. To provide 50 employees with free advice on safety and occupational medicine. This regulation can be found today in § 78a ASchG. More than 280 preventive specialists (occupational physicians and safety specialists) are on the road all over Austria in order to develop measures to increase safety and health together with the companies. More than 110,000 consultations are carried out across Austria every year. The financing of this advisory service is covered by the contribution to accident insurance, there are no additional costs for Austrian small and medium-sized businesses. This care is coordinated by the prevention centers located in each of the nine federal states. The strategic goals of AUVASAFE are currently:

  1. Reduce accidents and occupational diseases
  2. Driving innovation in prevention
  3. Reduction of work-related illnesses and awareness-raising for workplace health promotion with a focus on older employees (45+)
  4. Strengthen customer loyalty
  5. Increase the number of consultations

How often the company is visited by the preventive specialists depends on the size of the company: companies with up to ten employees are looked after every two or three years, companies with 11 to 50 employees are looked after annually (regular supervision). If the need for advice is greater and the planned time too short or an additional question arises, companies can request incident support at any time. This aftercare is also free of charge for operations. AUVASAFE looks after all branches in Austria. The companies are divided into care categories depending on the prevailing accident and health risk. The more dangerous the industry, the more time is available for questions from companies / workplaces. AUVASAFE is a prevention model that focuses on the individual company and its employee protection services. The advisory preventive specialists show various ways in which they can improve occupational safety and provide support in fulfilling legal obligations, which range from examinations according to the VGÜ (ordinance on health monitoring at the workplace) to recurring examinations according to AM-VO (work equipment ordinance).

The main office is in Brigittenau in Vienna . Since the AUVA is organized on a decentralized basis, the regional tasks are carried out in the regional offices. In the federal states without their own regional office there are therefore branch offices (in St. Pölten , Oberwart , Innsbruck , Dornbirn and Klagenfurt ).
