The Social Insurance Institution for the Self-Employed (SVS) is a product of a reform of the social insurance institutions in Austria . The SVS was created by amalgamating the Social Insurance Institution for Farmers (SVB) with the Social Insurance Institution for the Commercial Economy (SVA).

history

On December 13, 2018, the Austrian National Council passed the Social Insurance Organization Act (SV-OG) to merge the existing 21 into five social insurance institutions. The nine regional health insurance funds are to be merged to form the Austrian Health Insurance Fund , the Public Employees Insurance Company (BVA) and the Insurance Company for Railways and Mining (VAEB) to become the Insurance Company for Public Employees, Railways and Mining (BVAEB), the Farmers Social Insurance Institution (SVB) and the Social Insurance Institution of the commercial economy (SVA) to social insurance for the self-employed (SVS).

On April 1, 2019, the constituent meeting of the SVS transition committee took place, the body that was entrusted with the implementation of the merger. The Wels ÖVP city councilor Peter Lehner was elected chairman and Ludwig Schurm was elected as his deputy. On April 10, 2019, the transition committee decided on the SVS corporate design . On June 19, 2019, the transition committee appointed Hans Aubauer as General Manager from July 1, 2019, and Franz Ledermüller and Sabine Zaussinger as Deputy General Managers.

With the SVS, a social security agency was created for 1.2 million people and a volume of around 8.7 billion euros. The start took place on January 1, 2020.
