Regional Health Insurance Fund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The regional health insurance funds (GKK) were part of the statutory health insurance system in Austria alongside the other health insurance funds until 2019 . Each federal state had its own regional health insurance fund, with which the majority of the employed in the private sector and their relatives had health insurance. With the decrease in the number of civil servants, more and more people in employment from the public sector were also insured by the regional health insurance funds under private law contracts (colloquially also ASVG employees ). Only individual sectors such as railways and mining (belong together) had their own health insurance. In each case, the regional health insurance fund at which the workplace was located was responsible. For retirees, on the other hand, affiliation was based on their place of residence.
