The Accident Hospital Meidling (officially AUVA trauma center Vienna - location Meidling since 2018 ) is an accident hospital in the 12th Viennese district Meidling , Kundratstraße 37 and one of two locations of the trauma center Vienna . The supporting organization is the Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt (AUVA).

history

The decision to build the UKH Meidling was made in 1950. It was opened in 1956. One million patients had been cared for by 1981. Significant expansions and renovations took place in 1976–79, 1997 and 2007–2011.

Medical equipment

The hospital has 174 beds (including 12 intensive care beds), around 78 doctors and 500 employees. This makes it one of the largest accident hospitals in Europe. An average of 4,300 operations and around 14,000 surgical wound treatments are performed annually. For the supply of bone fractures are created each year over 40,000 casts. Follow-up treatments and rehabilitation are also part of the program. The number of people cared for annually is around 8,000 inpatients and 65,000 outpatients.

The surgical spectrum covers the entire range of trauma medicine , in particular trauma surgery and rehabilitation, and ranges from simple wound care to complex bone fractures, replantations , spinal column and soft tissue injuries. If necessary, for example in the case of multiple injuries, interdisciplinary measures can be taken (use of appropriate consultation subjects).

The hospital works closely with the neighboring Meidling rehabilitation center .

Conversion in stages

Since 1996 the accident hospital has been rebuilt in stages. In November 2008 it was given a new access on the south side (in Köglergasse) for post-treatment patients in order to avoid any waiting time when admitting new accident patients. In the next step, a separate first aid center will be built on the 1st floor, for which the main portal in Kundratstrasse will have to be closed from February 2009. The aftercare is concentrated on the ground floor and the physiotherapy is expanded. At the beginning of September 2012, the accident hospital opened an intensive care bed ward.

In addition to the main building, a new bed wing with 52 beds is currently being built for the rehabilitation center for cranial / brain injured people and day therapy. The old building of the "RZ" planned by the architect Gustav Peichl in 1968 is being completely renovated and converted into a therapy center, which can be accessed via barrier-free connecting paths from the accident hospital to the rehabilitation center.
