The Graz Accident Hospital is located in the Eggenberg district , in the north-west of the Styrian capital Graz and is operated by AUVA . It has 145 beds and an average of 50,000 patients are treated each year, of which around 7,200 are hospitalized. The spectrum of treatment on the six wards ranges from the operative and conservative care of simple and complex bone fractures, joint and soft tissue injuries of the upper and lower extremities as well as the care of skull, spinal column, chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries. Due to its function as a specialist hospital for (work) accidents, the catchment area of the hospital extends far beyond the boundaries of the greater Graz area.

history

Accident Hospital Graz

In 1889 the accident insurance for workers got legal status in Austria, which replaced the liability insurance of companies. A short time later, the workers' accident insurance institute for Styria and Carinthia was set up with its headquarters in Graz . At first, the focus was on orthopedic treatment for occupational accident victims in a building on Theodor-Körner-Strasse, which was built from 1912 to 1919.

Due to the poor spatial situation, a new construction of the accident hospital was tackled in the 1970s, in 1981 the UKH Graz moved to its current location in Graz-Eggenberg. Another renovation was started in 2000. In addition, in 2002 the west location of the LKH Graz Süd-West was inaugurated directly adjacent to the UKH Graz.

Medical equipment

The UKH houses the Institute for Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, a shock room for the seriously injured and a medical-diagnostic laboratory (in cooperation with the hospital of the Barmherzigen Brüder Eggenberg). It offers the possibility of psychotherapeutic, inpatient and outpatient care as well as movement exercises in the swimming pool, lymphatic drainage, electrotherapy, laser therapy, ultrasound therapy and shock wave therapy. In the area of radiology, the UKH works with the multislice computer tomograph, a digital x-ray. Magnetic resonance and 2-plane angiography are operated by the cooperation hospitals LKH Graz West and Barmherzige Brüder.

Emergency doctor base

The UKH participates in the Graz emergency doctor system operated by the Red Cross by providing emergency doctors . The emergency medical service vehicle (NEF) "Graz-West" (radio number: 5.0604 - called "NEF Berta") is located on the hospital grounds , primarily for the emergency medical care of the districts of Graz to the right of the Mur , as well as the neighboring suburbs and surrounding communities , responsible is. In the meantime, the outdated Toyota brand emergency vehicle has been replaced by a modern vehicle that complies with the latest guidelines of the Red Cross.

Quality management

As part of the implementation of a quality management system for all AUVA medical facilities , the UKH Graz acted as a pilot hospital within the overall organization. In October 2006 the error reporting system CIRPS (Critical incident reporting and prevention system) was introduced. This is an overall concept for reporting, processing and preventing adverse events in the treatment of patients. The UKH Graz was one of the first hospitals in Austria to receive the ÖKOPROFIT environmental award from the city of Graz several times.
