Katharina Kucharowits (born September 19, 1983 in Mödling , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Between October 2013 and November 2017 she was a member of the National Council , and in November 2018 she returned to parliament as a successor.

Life

Katharina Kucharowits comes from a social democratic family. Her father, Franz Kucharowits, was the deputy city director of the city of Schwechat .

After visiting the elementary school in Rannersdorf graduated Katharina Kucharowits 2001 on Bundesrealgymnasium in Schwechat. She then enrolled at the University of Vienna , where she began studying political science . She also enrolled in mathematics as well as psychology and philosophy as a teacher training course .

From April 2005 she was a member of the Young Generation , a youth organization of the SPÖ. Kucharowits gained further political experience from October 2006 as a parliamentary assistant to the SP National Council member Hannes Fazekas . In October 2007 she was elected to the board of the young generation at state level and in September 2012 she was elected federal chairman of the young generation.

In October 2009 Kucharowits became deputy chairwoman of the Social Democratic Party of Lower Austria and in October 2012 deputy federal party chairwoman . Since October 29, 2013, she was an SP member of the National Council, but missed a return in the October 2017 election . After the former Federal Chancellor Christian Kern resigned from office, she returned to the National Council on November 16, 2018 as a successor.
