Kai Jan Krainer (born September 9, 1968 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1986 to 2002 Krainer held various functions in local politics in Vienna, and since the end of 2002 he has been a member of the National Council in federal politics.

Life

Kai Jan Krainer began his school career in 1974 at the English elementary school in Vienna, from where he moved to the Escondido Elementary School in Stanford (California) in 1975 . Apart from a year abroad at the Berkeley Alternative School in Berkeley (California) in 1980, Krainer was a student at a secondary school in Vienna from 1978 to 1986. After graduating from high school , he began studying business informatics at the University of Vienna , which he did not complete. From 1994 to 1995 he was a civil servant at the Austrian Workers' Samaritan Association .

From 1981 to 1993 Krainer was involved in the Socialist Youth Austria (SJ) and the Action Critical Schoolchildren (AKS). Krainer was appointed Vienna State Coordinator of the AKS in 1986, changed to the function of the Vienna State Secretary of the SJ in 1988 and was appointed District Secretary of the SPÖ Landstrasse in 1993. He held this position until 2002. From 1994 to 2002 Krainer was Landstraßer district council, from 1996 also the Landstraßer bicycle traffic commissioner and chairman of the Landstraßer district development commission, and from 2001 chairman of the finance committee.

Since December 20, 2002, Krainer has been a member of the Austrian National Council. Krainer resigned from his Landstraßer functions when he entered federal politics. In addition to his national council mandate, Krainer initially took on the role of integration spokesman for the SPÖ. On July 1, 2004, he took over the role of environmental spokesman from Ulli Sima, who was leaving the National Council . Since January 2007 he has been budget and finance spokesman for the SPÖ. Also from January 2007 to July 2007 he was the leader of the SPÖ parliamentary group in the parliamentary "banking investigation committee". From February 2015 to October 2016 he was leader of the SPÖ parliamentary group in the parliamentary Hypo committee of inquiry . Krainer works for various online media. Among other things, he was a co-founder of the online community Blackbox .

During the National Council election campaign in 2017 , Krainer received the tax file from KTM boss Stefan Pierer from an undisclosed "informant" and published his tax data, as Pierer had previously acted as a supporter and major donor of the anti-election ÖVP . Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling then initiated an investigation into violation of official and tax secrecy. Pierer accused Krainer of " Silberstein methods ", "which are only about discrediting someone."

In spring 2018, Krainer worked with Alma Zadić (then List Pilz ) and Stephanie Krisper ( NEOS ) on the application to set up a parliamentary committee of inquiry into the BVT affair . Kai Jan Krainer was the party leader of the SPÖ in the BVT investigation committee, which was then constituted on April 20, 2018.

Krainer has had a son since 2000.
