Life

He studied in Tübingen at the Eberhard Karls University , where he became a member of the Normannia Association . Schlaich can be assigned theologically to Karl Heim and Karl Barth .

From 1930 to 1965 he headed the Diakonie Stetten , at that time still a sanatorium and nursing home in Stetten.

In 1933 he took over the training of the nursing staff at the institution. Despite his controversial role at the time of National Socialism , he was considered an advocate of the “dignity of children of God” even for the severely disabled. The qualifications of his employees were particularly important to him. In 1983 the D. Ludwig Schlaich Foundation was established with the aim of promoting and improving the quality of life of people with disabilities. Since then, funding programs and projects have been supported and scholarships have been awarded. The D. Ludwig Schlaich Prize is awarded annually for outstanding specialist work.

Ludwig Schlaich is the father of Jörg Schlaich and Klaus Schlaich .
