Stefan Pierer

Stefan Pierer (born November 25, 1956 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian entrepreneur . He is the founder of the holding company Cross Industries , later KTM Industries , and CEO of KTM AG .

Life

Stefan Pierer grew up in Etmißl . After high school he graduated from a technical college for mechanical engineering. He then studied business and energy management at the Montan University Leoben , graduating in 1982 as a graduate engineer . He then worked for several years at the heating and ventilation manufacturer Hoval in Marchtrenk , initially as a sales assistant, later as sales manager for Upper Austria and authorized signatory.

In 1987 he founded the holding company Cross Industries , which later became the KTM Industries holding group . In the early 1990s, he bought parts of the insolvent KTM Motor-Fahrzeugbau , and in 2005 KTM AG emerged from KTM-Sportmotorcycles GmbH . Pierer is also chairman of the supervisory board of Pankl Racing Systems AG, member of the supervisory board of SHW AG and president of ACEM - European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers , the European association of motorcycle manufacturers.

In the course of the National Council election in Austria in 2017 , Pierer supported the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) with a donation of 436,563 euros, after he had previously announced that he would double all ÖVP party donations received by July 31, 2017. SPÖ finance spokesman Kai Jan Krainer subsequently published details from Pierer's tax file and criticized Pierer's low tax performance. Pierer rejected the statement that the structure chosen would fully comply with Austrian tax legislation. Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling announced that he would start investigations into violation of tax and official secrecy.

In 2006 Pierer was nominated by Die Presse as Austrian of the Year in the business category, and in 2012 he was awarded in the business management category. Trend magazine voted him Man of the Year at the end of 2014 . On the list of The World's Billionaires of the US magazine Forbes he was represented for the first time in 2018, with an estimated fortune of 1.2 billion US dollars he was in 1867th place.
