Etmißl is a formerly independent municipality with 479 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) in the judicial district of Bruck an der Mur and in the political district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria . As part of the Styrian municipal structural reform in Styria, Etmißl has been incorporated into the municipality of Thörl since 2015, together with the previously independent municipality of St. Ilgen . The basis for this was the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG. A complaint to the Constitutional Court against the merger was unsuccessful. The Constitutional Court rejected the complaint.

As the table shows, the population has decreased more or less continuously since the beginning of the censuses, especially sharply in the Great Depression between the censuses of 1934 and 1939, with a slight recovery during the Second World War and the following decades up to 1991, but through which it was the highest Status of 1869 and 1900 was not nearly reached again. Since 1991 the population has been declining again due to emigration, which could not be compensated for by the just balanced birth balance .

Regional policy

Etmißl was a member of the Regionext-Kleinregion Hochschwab Süd , founded December 2, 2009 , and of the LEADER region Mariazellerland-Mürz Valley .

On the occasion of the municipal structural reform 2010-2015 Etmißl was incorporated together with Sankt Ilgen bei Thörl . Thörl was also in negotiations with Bruck and Kapfenberg, but incorporation into these towns was rejected by the Etmißler and St. Ilgner local politicians. A further merger with Aflenz Kurort / Aflenz Land and perhaps Turnau (six-solution) was also under discussion .

In the course of the municipal structural reform, the party structures of the SPÖ of Thörl, St. Ilgen and Etmißl should also be merged in March 2014. The SPÖ Etmißl decided unanimously to dissolve the local party and to found a citizens' list. The “Free Independent List of Livable Values” was founded, into which not only Mayor Johann Jobstmann, but the entire SPÖ municipal council group converted.
