Aflenz is a market town founded on January 1st, 2015 with 2,440 inhabitants (as of January 1st, 2020) in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria .
The municipality emerged as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria from the previously independent municipalities Aflenz Kurort and Aflenz Land, which were dissolved on December 31, 2014 .

Due to the amalgamation of the municipalities, the coats of arms of Aflenz Kurort and Aflenz Land lost their official validity on January 1st, 2015.
The new award to the community of Aflenz took effect on June 15, 2016.
The changed blazon reads:
- "Between green shield flanks, the front one covered with a silver bishop's staff including a flying velum, the rear one with a silver key with an upturned beard, a blue, silver-bordered pole, up to the upper quarter of which a silver three-pointed mountain with a raised central point protrudes topped with a green, rooted and leafy apple tree. "
history
The earliest written document is from 1025 and reads "in loco Auelniz". The name goes back to the Slavic * Abolъnica (stream near apple trees).
Economy and Infrastructure
The community is the location of the Aflenz earth station .
Tourism association
Together with Thörl, Aflenz forms the “ Hochschwab ” tourism association . Its seat is the municipality of Aflenz.
