Breitenau am Hochlantsch is an Austrian market town in the judicial district of Bruck an der Mur and in the political district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in Styria with 1646 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
Breitenau is a side valley of the Mur valley and lies at the foot of the Hochlantsch in the Almenland region . Breitenau is located approx. 15 km southeast of the district capital Bruck an der Mur .
The market community consists of the cadastral communities Erhardstrasse , Lantsch , Schlaggraben and Sonnleiten-Pernegg .
The municipality consists of the following districts (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

- Öko-Park Hochreiter: The Öko-Park Hochreiter is 1050 m above sea level, at the foot of the Teichalm. There is a petting zoo for children just five minutes by car from Teichalmsee. A new eco-house with seminars is available.

Public transport
The Mixnitz – Sankt Erhard local railway runs from Mixnitz to Breitenau, although since 1966 it has only been used for freight traffic. The nearest train station with a regional train connection is at the Mixnitz- Bärenschützklamm station in the municipality of Pernegg an der Mur , around ten kilometers from the center of Breitenau. The next train station with InterCity traffic is in Bruck an der Mur, around 20 km away. Breitenau can be reached from Bruck an der Mur by post bus .
Street
The next long-distance road is the Brucker Schnellstraße S 35. The Mautstatt junction in the municipality of Pernegg an der Mur is around eight kilometers from the center of Breitenau.
economy
According to the 2001 census of workplaces, there are 57 workplaces with 432 employees. The main employer is the magnesite mining of RHI-Magnesita .
Tourism association
Together with Fladnitz an der Teichalm, Gasen, Passail, Pernegg an der Mur and St. Kathrein am Offenegg, the municipality forms the “ Naturpark Almenland Teichalm-Sommeralm ” tourism association . Its seat is the municipality of Fladnitz an der Teichalm.
