history
The first finds of a human culture date back to the third millennium BC, a serpentine hammer ax that was brought to light on the Goller. In addition to the proven Illyrian and Celtic settlement, the Roman times in particular left clear traces. A Roman gravestone from the 1st century AD is built into the churchyard wall around the Fladnitz parish church, two more are in the Joanneum in Graz.
At the end of the 6th century, the Slavs advanced into our area following the warlike Avars. It is not buildings or tombstones that have survived, but mountain and river names, such as B. Fladnitz, Schrems, Rossegg or Tober.
After the area was incorporated into the Frankish empire of Charlemagne in 788, the Bavarian settlement of the basin began, which is mainly remembered by the many clearing names such as Oberreith, Leisenreith, Greithbauer, Reiter or Raith.
The clearing manager lived in a knight's farm, for which the best reasons were selected. This resulted in the knight family of the "Fladnitzer", which consisted of several families. "Ekardus et Valclinus de Fletinz" appear in the tenth treaty document of July 15, 1240 as a legal indicator. This is the first time that Fladnitz is mentioned in a document.
The first church in Fladnitz is mentioned in a document in 1285 and consecrated according to the parish chronicle in 1303, the parish patron is St. Nicholas (December 6th).
The year 1483 is assumed to be the year of construction of the current late Gothic church. This date bears a Gothic rib on the altar of the Sorrowful Mother. In the first half of the 18th century, Phillipp Jakob Straub created the current high altar. Johann Veit Hauck painted the high altar picture of St. Nicholas.
Over the centuries, the development spanned from a purely rural community to a very tourist-oriented community, in which, in addition to the many recreational opportunities in summer, winter sports on the Teichalm also play an important role. Examples of this are the construction of the 5 hectare Teichalmsee (1972–1974) and the establishment of a snow-making system in 1995. As part of the Leader II project, the moor hiking trail through the “Latschenhochmoor Teichalm” nature reserve was built in 2001/02. The "Almenland" golf course was built in 2002/03. Since June 2006 the community has been able to call itself the "Almenland Nature Park Community".
From the place names Fladnitz bei Passail and Fladnitz an der Teichalpe, the current community name Fladnitz an der Teichalm was determined in 1977. The patron saint of the community is Saint Nicholas , after whom the parish church is named. In 2015, Fladnitz celebrated the 775th anniversary of the first written mention of the community name.

coat of arms
The first municipal coat of arms for Fladnitz was awarded with effect from July 1, 1966. The blazon (coat of arms description) reads:
- "In a golden shield over a silver shield base covered with a blue fish, a green tip that extends to the upper edge and is covered with a downing silver eagle."
The towering peak symbolizes the dominating mountain peak of the Osser (1548 m), which characterizes the landscape. The eagle indicates the abundance of game in the area; At the same time, this alludes to a Roman stone found in the community that shows an eagle image. The shield base characterizes the abundance of fish in the bright mountain streams.
All three predecessor municipalities had a municipal coat of arms. Due to the amalgamation of municipalities, these lost their official validity on January 1st, 2015. The new municipal coat of arms for the merged municipality was decided by the municipal council on March 21, 2018, the new award by the state government took effect on June 5, 2018.
The new blazon (description of the coat of arms) reads:
- "In the shield, which is divided from silver to green obliquely to the left, a rooted spruce above green, below the cut-off head of an ibex in gold."
The horizontal division of the coat of arms shows a similarity with the Tulwitzer coat of arms, a golden ibex on a green background was chosen as the new heraldic animal, plus a green conifer on a silver background.
