history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1232. There is evidence of an early historical settlement in the form of so-called “Celtic graves”. Hartmann, a knight of the Riegersburg, which was built in 1138, is named as the founder. Hartmannsdorf was called "Windisch-Hartmannsdorf" until 1922. This indicates that the German settlers who immigrated in the 12th century found remnants of a thin Slavic population that could only survive in hidden peripheral locations. In the 12th century there were still remains of a connecting road, according to which the villages were aligned. So the German settlement began in the dominion of the Riegersburg in the Rittscheintal, whereby Hartmannsdorf was newly founded in the second quarter of the 12th century as a street village along the old connecting route through the Rittscheintal. The old name Windisch-Hartmannsdorf does not mean a windy village, but rather a German-speaking settlement in the windy area.

Population development

From 1990 to 2011, both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive.

  • Catholic parish church Hartmannsdorf hl. Radegundis
  • Ulrichsbrunn is a pilgrimage chapel with a spring about two kilometers outside the village. The spring water is said to heal eye ailments. The area around the chapel is a spring protection area, the spring is an important part of the drinking water supply for the place. According to the book "s'Marterl" by Stjepan Drvoderic, a legend says that a long time ago, where the Ulrichsbrunn Chapel stands today, a whole city was built, which is said to have sunk into the soil softened by the spring. Furthermore, a hiker who visits the chapel on nights of the full moon should still be able to see the steeple protruding from the ground. However, if the unfortunate one touches the top of the church tower, legend has it that he will be dragged down into the sunken city and must stay there forever.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture (fruit, corn, pumpkin) dominates. There are some small businesses and service companies that also use the business park as a business location.

badges and flags

Hartmannsdorf received a municipal coat of arms in 1959. It is derived from the abbess and parish patron saint of St.  Radegundis . This saint was represented with two wolves and a crown as gifts.

The heraldic description ( blazon ) of the coat of arms reads:

“In a shield quartered with blue and silver in field 1 the golden upper part of a bishop's staff, in 4 a golden crown; in the silver fields 2 and 3 a blue, red-tongued wolf head. "

The municipality flag has two stripes in blue and white with the coat of arms.
