Municipal council elections in Styria 2005

On March 13, 2005 was in the Styrian municipalities with the exception of Graz city council selected. In the Styrian municipalities, the mayor was elected by the respective municipal council; direct election by voters is not planned.

The election brought the following result (summed up throughout Styria) (in each case compared to the municipal council election in 2000 ):

A total of 7,507 mandates were awarded in 541 municipalities. The results in the individual municipalities are given in the respective local articles.

The turnout fell from 79.97% to 77.81%; nevertheless, the number of valid votes rose from 581,965 to 597,096.

The Liberal Forum , which had stood as a candidate in some parishes in 2000 and achieved 1 mandate, did not take part in any parish.
