The Football Club Lorient-Bretagne Sud is a French football club from the Breton port city of Lorient in the Morbihan department .

history

It was founded in 1926 as FC Lorientais ; The driving force behind its founding were the parents of the future national player Antoine Cuissard . After the Second World War , the club was temporarily called FC de Lorient or FC Lorient 56 , and in the mid-1990s it took its current name. The club and its players are also known as les Merlus (German: the hake ). The club colors are orange and black; The league team plays in the Stade du Moustoir , which was built in 1959 and which, after the last expansion (2010), has artificial turf and a capacity of 18,500 seats.

The 2001/02 season was the most successful in the club's history despite relegation from the first division. In April 2002, the Bretons had the final of the League Cup still Girondins Bordeaux 0: 3 beaten. On May 11, 2002 Lorient won the longed-for first title with a 1-0 win against the Corsican SC Bastia in the final of the national cup . For eleven years, between 2003 and 2014, Christian Gourcuff coached Lorient's first men's team.

At the end of 2010, the board decided to commission the composition of a club anthem. The very popular band Soldat Louis , rooted in Lorient, presented the song "Debout, Lorient!" For the first time live in the stadium in spring 2011. Since then, it has been sung there, especially by local fan groups.

The club's president is Loïc Féry. (As of June 2017)

League affiliation

The club was not represented in the professional field until late in its history (1967–1977 and again since 1995). First class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ), Lorient played in 1998/99, 2001/02 and from 2006/07 to 2016/17.
