Career
societies
Gameiro, who took his first steps in football at two amateur clubs near his birthplace, came to Racing Strasbourg at the age of 14 . At Racing he moved up to the professional squad in summer 2005. On the 6th matchday, September 10, 2005, he made his Ligue 1 debut in the game against Paris Saint-Germain . In the 60th minute, the young player came on for Haykel Guemamdia . He scored his first league goal in a 2-1 defeat against RC Lens . He scored his first competitive goal for Racing in the UEFA Cup appearance on December 14, 2005. After his team were already 0-2 down by the 79th minute, Gameiro secured the draw with two goals.
In February 2006, the attacker tore a cruciate ligament and was out until the end of the season. He had just made his way into the starting eleven, but then had to watch how relegation was certain at the end of the season. In 2006/07 he got more practice and played 16 games in Ligue 2 . After returning to France's top division, Gameiro prevailed in attack and made his national breakthrough. He only missed four of the 38 games. With his six goals he was behind Wason Rentería the second best scorer of his team. Despite his league goal, Strasbourg could not keep in the upper house, but rose again immediately as 19th. For this reason, Gameiro joined FC Lorient in the summer of 2008 , to whom this transfer was worth the highest transfer fee in the club's history (3 million euros). Under coach Christian Gourcuff , he made a leap in performance in Brittany that made him the second-best top scorer in the top division in the 2009/10 season and brought him into the senior national team. During the winter break of 2010/11, the Merlus prevented him from leaving his contract, which was valid until July 2012, but announced that he could leave Lorient in the summer of 2011 for a transfer fee of 15 million euros. The attacker accepted this and successfully campaigned for his club in the second half of the season; by February 20 he had already scored seven more goals in the championship and two in the national cup , in which FC Lorient qualified for the quarter-finals . At the end of the season Gameiro was again the second best league goal hunter with 22 goals.
In the summer of 2011 Gameiros moved to league rivals Paris Saint-Germain . Gameiro signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2015.
For the 2013/14 season Gameiro moved to the Spanish Primera División for Sevilla FC , with whom he won the UEFA Europa League that same season .
For the 2016/17 season Gameiro moved to Atlético Madrid within the Primera División . He received a four-year contract until June 30, 2020. On February 18, 2017, he was substituted on in the game against Sporting Gijón just before the end and scored a hat trick within 5 minutes.
In August 2018 he moved to league rivals FC Valencia .
National team
Gameiro already played for various junior teams in France. In 2007 he was appointed to the squad of the U20 national team for the Toulon tournament. The young French could win this. With three goals in the final against China, he was "Man of the Day". With two more goals in the course of the tournament, he won the top scorer cannon of the competition; in addition, he secured the best player's trophy through good performances. The dual citizen later refused to play for the senior national team of Portugal .
At the end of August 2010, the then national coach Laurent Blanc appointed him for the first time for the national team for the two European Championship qualifiers in September against Belarus and Bosnia-Herzegovina and switched him to Belarus shortly before the end of the game. After the attacker had played eight games in the blue dress up to November 2011, he was not taken into account again until almost five years later when Blanc's successor Didier Deschamps replaced him in the final phase for Olivier Giroud - again against Belarus during a World Cup qualifying match .
