Development of the number of goals in the Bundesliga top scorer

The top scorer is an award for the best scorer in the German Bundesliga , the so-called top scorer . Each player who has been awarded the cannon receives their own copy of the award, which becomes their property after being presented. Since 2004, the top scorer in the women's Bundesliga has also received the top scorer cannon.

history

It was awarded by the then sports magazine at the end of the third Bundesliga season 1965/66 for the first time to the most successful goalscorer, namely Lothar Emmerich from Borussia Dortmund , who had scored 31 goals. Most often, the award was given to Gerd Müller , who was awarded a total of seven times. Ten times the cannon was awarded at the end of the season to two players who were on top with the same number of goals scored.

Since the merger of kicker and sports magazine in 1968, the award has been given by the kicker sports magazine .

For the 2019/20 season, the award was extended to the 2nd to 11th division for men and for women up to and including the 7th division. In staggered leagues (such as the regional league ) the top scorer cannon is awarded to the most accurate shooter of all relays. In the event of a tie, the higher goal quotient decides. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , all seasons were canceled before the regular end of the season from the Regionalliga downwards, which is why the first award to the amateurs was suspended; the BFV leagues that want to continue their respective seasons are excluded from this . The first top scorer after the expansion were Fabian Klos ( Arminia Bielefeld ; 2nd Bundesliga) and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt ( FC Bayern Munich II ; 3rd division).

Appearance

Caused by a change of model or the abandonment of the company by manufacturers, the shape of the goalscorer cannon has changed slightly over the years. It is made of solid cast iron. The current version weighs approx. 3.2 kg. The barrel of the cannon is 26 cm long, the dimensions of the wooden base plate are 43 × 22 cm.

Aílton's cannon

In March 2007, tax and gaming advisor Werner Helleckes offered Aílton's top scorer, together with other trophies and personal items, to Aílton's top scorer in the course of an auction at the internet auction house eBay because, according to Hellecke, he owed him. With a bid of over € 600,000, ebay stopped the auction due to an injunction obtained by Aílton.
