scorer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In various team sports (e.g. soccer , handball , hockey ) , the goal scorer is the player who has the largest share of a goal scored . This also applies to own goals . Frequently successful goal scorers are referred to as scorers and, colloquially, also as clippers .

Statistical recording and awarding of scorers

Since goals have a decisive influence on the outcome of a game, goal scorers play an increasingly important role in the statistical analysis of games today. Successful goal scorers receive special awards (e.g. the goal scorer cannon or the award for goal of the year or of the month ).

Problems with deflected goals

In football in particular, there is a problem with so-called deflected goals. This refers to goals where the goal scorer cannot be clearly identified because two or more players have influenced the direction of the ball. For the game result it is often irrelevant whether goals are scored with a deflection. However, falsified goals, in which the said shooter may even differ from viewer to viewer, are in principle unpleasant for both viewers and statisticians.

The world football association FIFA has therefore decided that the player from whom the original shot originated should always be named as the goal scorer - unless a player who later touches the ball causes a decisive change in the direction of flight of the game device. In addition, this regulation is also intended to limit the number of own goals.

In hockey , there is no own goals. The last player on the successful team who last touched the puck is considered the goal scorer. Thus, the goalscorer in the upper divisions must be determined on the basis of television recordings. In the Swiss championship 2006/2007 the curious situation arose that Marco Bührer , the goalkeeper of SC Bern , was declared the goal scorer in the game against EHC Basel . A minute earlier he was the last player on his team to touch the puck in a defense. Immediately after this contact, a penalty was reported against one of his teammates. They avoided touching the puck in order to (regularly) delay the penalty. The goal was scored because a Basel defender missed his striker's sharply played back pass and the striker slid into the empty goal.
