Goal of the year

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The award for the goal of the year was brought into being next to the goal of the month in 1971 by the ARD . Initially, the soccer goal of the year was chosen by mail. Today the vote will take place by phone vote and on the Internet.

The goals of the month are included in the selection for goal of the year . The most extraordinary and spectacular goal did not always win the vote. Occasionally, a crucial goal for an important title win has been voted Goal of the Year. Example is deflected golden goal from Oliver Bierhoff to victory in the UEFA EURO 1996 . The same is true of the decisive, but generally considered unspectacular, header by Nia Künzer at the 2003 Women's World Cup .

Records

player

  1. Klaus Fischer (3)
  2. Günter Netzer , Gerd Müller , Karl-Heinz Rummenigge , Lothar Matthäus and Raúl (2 each)

Only the striker Klaus Fischer has been the only goal scorer of the year more than twice , namely in 1975, 1977 and 1982. Fischer became known above all for his overhead kicks . In 1977 he scored his second goal of the year on November 16, 1977 in the international match between Germany and Switzerland (4: 1) at the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart, also with an overhead kick , and it was later also goal of the decade and goal of the century . Also in the 1982 World Cup semi-final against France , Fischer scored the important 3: 3 in extra time with an overhead kick, his third goal of the year.

particularities

In 1994 Bernd Schuster managed to take the first three places. The youngest player so far was 18-year-old Daniel Simmes , the oldest player was 79-year-old Kurt Meyer and the only woman to date is Nia Künzer .

For the first time in 1972 the award was given to two players. The goalscorer Netzer was alluded to by Gerd Müller using a hack trick . Since all the defenders concentrated on the striker Müller, who was alluded to by Netzer, the now unprotected Netzer could shoot in. Thus, Gerd Müller was the first player to receive the award without having scored himself. The second award for two players followed in 2013 for Julian Draxler and Raúl. This goal was also the result of a heel trick that Draxler used to unlock Raúl.

Zlatan Ibrahimović is the first player from a foreign team to be named goalscorer of the year.

Lukas Podolski , record holder with 12 goals of the month, scored the goal of the year for the first time with his twelfth goal of the month.
