The highlights of the badminton year 1979 were the Thomas Cup 1979 as well as the All England , the Irish Open , the Scottish Open , the Dutch Open , the Denmark Open , the Southeast Asian Games and the French Open . The smaller world association WBF hosted a world championship .

Fencing World Championships

The 1979 World Fencing Championships took place in Melbourne from August 18 to 28, 1979 . Eight competitions were held, six for men and two for women. With six out of eight possible titles, the Soviet Union team became the most successful nation in this World Cup.
