Vincenzo Iaquinta (born November 21, 1979 in Crotone , Italy ) is a former Italian football player . The striker was under contract with Juventus Turin until June 2013 in Serie A.
Career
In the club
Vincenzo Iaquinta played for Udinese Calcio from the 2000/01 season , where he matured from a reservist to an important player. He was instrumental in the success of the 2004/05 season when Udinese finished fourth in the league. In the following Champions League qualification, he secured his club's first participation in the Champions League with two goals. In the first game against Panathinaikos Athens he scored all three goals in the 3-0 win for Udinese Calcio.
From the 2007/08 season Iaquinta played for Juventus Turin . He received a five-year contract. In January 2012, he was awarded to league rivals AC Cesena . After half a year, Iaquinta returned to the 2012/13 season, but was no longer a member of the first division squad. His contract, which expired in summer 2013, was not renewed.
In the national team
Iaquinta was in the Italian squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Here he was substituted on in the first game against Ghana in the second half and scored the decisive 2-0 with his first international goal. In the further course of the tournament, national coach Marcello Lippi mostly used him as a joker in the second half, including in the semifinals against Germany and in the final against France , in which Italy won the football world championship for the fourth time on penalties.

Since March 23, 2016, Iaquinta has been on trial in Bologna in one of the largest mafia trials to date. He is accused of having illegal weapons and belonging to the Mafia, which he denies. In October 2018, he was sentenced to two years in prison and his father was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
