Simone Barone (born April 30, 1978 in Nocera Inferiore ) is a former Italian football player and current coach .

He played in midfield and belonged to the world champion squad of the national team of Italy in the 2006 World Cup in Germany .

Career

In the club

Simone Barone began his career at AC Parma , but since he was hardly used here, he moved to the 1998/99 season on loan to Padova Calcio in Serie C1 . Here he was able to earn a regular place straight away. In the following season Barone was Alzano Virescit in the Serie B awarded. After only one year in Alzano Lombardo , the league rival Chievo Verona signed him . In his first season, Simone Barone made the leap into the regular team, and at the end of the season the Veronese were promoted to Serie A for the first time . Chievo was subsequently able to assert himself here. For the 2002/03 season Barone moved back to his home club AC Parma. Here he was used regularly and was able to convince with his performance. This enabled him to join the Italian national team. For the 2004/05 season, US Palermo secured the services of the national player. After two years in the Rosaneri team , Simone Barone moved to his current club, FC Turin, after the 2006 World Cup . When Turin was relegated from Serie A in 2009, Barone left the club and moved to Cagliari Calcio . He was featured sixteen times that season, but his contract was terminated at the end of the season. During the non-contract period he trained regularly with Crociati Noceto . After a trial with AS Livorno , he was committed there for the 2011/12 season . After his contract was not renewed in the summer of 2012, Barone retired at the age of 34.

In the national team

Simone Barone played for the first time in the Italian national team on February 18, 2004 in a 2-2 draw against the Czech Republic under Giovanni Trapattoni . He played regularly for the next two years. For the 2006 World Cup in Germany , Barone was appointed by Marcello Lippi to the Italian World Cup squad and used twice. After that he was called up to the Squadra Azzurra only once . The 2006 world championship title is his greatest sporting success.

As a trainer

After retiring in 2012, Barone became a youth coach at FC Modena in 2013 and initially coached the Allievi Nazionali team before coaching the Primavera team for two years . Since summer 2015 he has been the coach of the Primavera of Parma Calcio .
